Our Artist in Residence Programme. 2026/7.

Our Artist in Residence programme is now in its fourth year and has been wildly successful, both for us and for the makers, artists and craftspeople that have used a stay at Glen Dye as inspiration for their work.

It has also been wildly over-subscribed and as a small team we often struggled to begin to manage all of the applications. So, this time we have narrowed the criteria for entry and applicants are invited to react to the work of Cecil Beaton and to place that in the context of Scotland. In reality, because Cecil was such a polymath, this does leave things wide open; he designed costumes and sets, he painted and wrote and photographed and more. But still, we want applicants to find something in his work that will inspire their work while at Glen Dye. Thereafter, we leave things up to you.

This is what we offer.

A free stay at in one of our cottages at Glen Dye, for up to two weeks
A stipend if needed.
Travel costs if needed.
A place to work.

This is what we ask for.

You to leave a piece of your work at Glen Dye if you want to (not obligatory).
You to talk to us about your time at Glen Dye so that we can share the experience with our supporters.
You to tell your supporters about your time with us on Instagram etc.

Other stuff.

You do not need to be a professional artist or maker in order to apply, indeed people starting entirely new practices have been a highlight of the programme so far.

Please also note that.

We will close applications when we have as many as we can cope with, so be fairly quick. In the past we have been so inundated with applications that we can’t cope. Don’t let this put you off, but please just be aware of this.

Noting the above, we’ll try to answer questions but please be patient.
